Welcome to SGPGIMS

Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences has been established under the State Legislature Act in 1983 and is named after Sanjay Gandhi.It was created by the state of Uttar Pradesh as a centre of excellence for providing medical care, education and research of the highest order. The institute is situated in a 550 acres (2.2 square kilometres) campus at Raebareli Road, 15 km from the main city. Lucknow is located about 500km east of New Delhi and is the capital of Uttar Pradesh. Lucknow is famous for its Nawabi culture, Mughlai cuisine and intricate chikan work, a form of fine embroidery.

The Institute provides postgraduate training to medical and nonmedical professionals. The training programmes lead to D.M., M.Ch., M.D., Ph.D., postdoctoral fellowships, postdoctoral certificate Programmes in various disciplines. In addition, it offers senior residency training programmes. B.Sc. Nursing course and BSc / MSc paramedical technology Programmes in allied sciences are offered by the College of Medical Technology.The Institute is an autonomous body and awards degrees which are recognised by the Medical Council of India. The Institute functions as a State University and is member of the Association of Indian Universities and is recognised by University Grants Commission.

  • 14/12/2025: The 42nd Foundation Day of the Institute was celebrated with great zeal and enthusiasm

    The Foundation Day program began with the traditional lamp lighting and Saraswati Vandana.Director Professor R.K. Dhiman presented the Institute's annual report and elaborated on the Institute's vision and upcoming projects.

    This vision received strong assurance and encouragement from Deputy Chief Minister, Uttar Pradesh, Hon'ble Shri Brajesh Pathak. Addressing the audience present on the occasion, the Hon'ble Deputy Chief Minister extended his heartiest congratulations to the SGPGI family and appreciated their continuous efforts in scaling new heights in patient care, research and teaching.

  • 06/12/2025: Pre-Conference Workshop on MSK Ultrasound of Peripheral Nerves Successfully Conducted at SGPGIMS

    The workshop was inaugurated by Prof. R. K. Dhiman, Director, SGPGIMS. “Innovations like MSK ultrasound empower physiatrists to diagnose and treat patients earlier and more accurately. Such workshops strengthen the future of rehabilitation care in our state,” said Prof. Dhiman.

    Esteemed dignitaries present included Prof. Arun Srivastava (Incharge, ATC) and Prof. V. S. Gogia (HOD PMR, Dr. RMLIMS).

    As Workshop Convener, Dr. Siddharth Rai, Additional Professor, Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, ATC SGPGIMS, highlighted the purpose of the event:

  • 26 Oct 2025 SGPGI Breast Health Programme : Walkathon & Pink ball Cricket Legue

    The walkathon was flagged off at 3:00 PM from the Institute’s cricket ground and went up to the main hospital entrance (Gate No.1). Doctors, nurses, students, and staff from different departments — along with their families and other residents of the campus — joined in large numbers. All participants wore pink T-shirts and pink caps, carrying placards with messages on breast cancer awareness and self-examination, creating a vibrant and inspiring sight.

  • 25 Oct 2025 25th-Current Perspectives in Liver Diseases (CPLD-2025)

    The Department of Hepatology, SGPGI, organized the 25th “Current Perspectives in Liver Diseases (CPLD-2025)” conference on 25th and 26th October 2025 in Lucknow. The conference was attended by eminent personalities in the fields of Hepatology and Gastroenterology across the country, including Prof RK Dhiman (SGPGI), Prof Anoop Saraya (ILBS, New Delhi), Prof Ajay Duseja (PGI Chandigarh), Prof Rakesh Agarwal (SGPGI), and Prof AC Anand (KIMS, Bhubaneshwar), to name a few.

  • 15 Oct 2025: Dissemination Seminar on “Cyber Security”

    The seminar highlighted the convergence of healthcare cyber security and women’s empowerment, aligning with the vision of the Government of Uttar Pradesh’s flagship Mission Shakti initiative, which emphasizes safety, awareness and digital empowerment of women.

    The event was graced by several esteemed guests, including Padma Shri Prof. R. K. Dhiman, Director, SGPGIMS, Prof. Shaleen Kumar, Dean, SGPGIMS, Ms. Kritika Sharma, IAS, Special Secretary, Department of Medical Education, Government of Uttar Pradesh, and Additional Director, SGPGIMS and others.

  • 22-24 Aug 2025: SERCON 2025 Highlights Breakthroughs in Emergency Radiology Aiming to Transform Patient Care

    The 12th Annual Conference of the Society for Emergency Radiology (SERCON 2025) organized by the dept. of Radio diagnosis.

    The conference brought together over 500 delegates from across India and abroad under the theme “From Tears to Twists: Mastering GI and MSK Emergencies.”

    The success of SERCON 2025 was attributed to the vision and guidance of Director Padmashree Dr. R. K. Dhiman, the leadership of Organising Chairperson Dr. Archna Gupta, and the meticulous planning of Organising Secretary Dr. Anuradha Singh
