Welcome to SGPGIMS

Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences has been established under the State Legislature Act in 1983 and is named after Sanjay Gandhi.It was created by the state of Uttar Pradesh as a centre of excellence for providing medical care, education and research of the highest order. The institute is situated in a 550 acres (2.2 square kilometres) campus at Raebareli Road, 15 km from the main city. Lucknow is located about 500km east of New Delhi and is the capital of Uttar Pradesh. Lucknow is famous for its Nawabi culture, Mughlai cuisine and intricate chikan work, a form of fine embroidery.

The Institute provides postgraduate training to medical and nonmedical professionals. The training programmes lead to D.M., M.Ch., M.D., Ph.D., postdoctoral fellowships, postdoctoral certificate Programmes in various disciplines. In addition, it offers senior residency training programmes. B.Sc. Nursing course and BSc / MSc paramedical technology Programmes in allied sciences are offered by the College of Medical Technology.The Institute is an autonomous body and awards degrees which are recognised by the Medical Council of India. The Institute functions as a State University and is member of the Association of Indian Universities and is recognised by University Grants Commission.

  • 05-07 Sep 2025: 37th Foundation Day of the Department of Endocrine Surgery & 16th PGES 2025

    The biennial academic event brought together eminent international and national faculty, alumni, practicing surgeons & trainees from across India. It was organised under the leadership of Prof. Gaurav Agarwal(HoD & Organising Chairman) & Dr. Sabaretnam M.(Organising Secretary) with active support from faculty and residents.

    The Ceremony featured addresses by Prof. Shaleen Kumar (Dean), Padma Shree Prof. R. K. Dhiman (Director), and Dr. Aditya Kapoor, with Dr. Maruthu Pandian as Chief Guest. The Foundation Day Oration by Dr. Christine O’Neill inspired participants.Residents’ Handbook & official website were launched.

  • 06-07 Sep 2025: Two-day academic event on Neuromonitoring Masterclass was organized by the Dept. of Neurosurgery

    The Department of Neurosurgery, SGPGIMS Lucknow, successfully organised a Neuromonitoring Masterclass on 6th and 7th September 2025. The event was chaired by Prof. Awadhesh Kumar Jaiswal, HOD, Neurosurgery with Dr. Kuntal Kanti Das and Dr. Soumen Kanjilal serving as the Organising Secretaries. This two-day academic event brought together eminent speakers from across the country, each a distinguished expert in the field of neuromonitoring.

  • 28/08/2025: SGPGIMS Installs Advanced Bone Health Machine for Better Patient Care

    A new machine to check bone strength and overall bone health has been installed at Advance Diabetic Centre, SGPGIMS. Director, Padmashree Prof R K Dhiman inaugurated the The Dual-Energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DXA) machine (Model Horizon) on 28th August, which has been set up on the fourth floor of the Advance Diabetes Centre (ADC) Building.

    Inaugurating the facility, Director said that it will help in diagnosing osteoporosis (weak bones) and other bone-related problems early, so that treatment can begin on time.

  • 28/08/2025: A Pre-Conference Workshop focused on the prevention of stillbirths through the empowerment of healthcare workers was organized

    The event featured the gracious presence of Deputy Chief Minister Shri Brajesh Pathak, SGPGIMS Director Padmashri Professor R.K. Dhiman, CMO Dr. N.B Singh, and Organising Chairperson Dr. Mandakini Pradhan, HOD, Maternal and Reproductive Health.

    The primary aim of the workshop was to encourage learning and collaboration among healthcare workers. Approximately 600 ASHA workers attended the workshop.As the ASHA workers stand at the frontline and play an irreplaceable role in supporting families.

  • 23/08/2025: Induction Program & Tablet Distribution Ceremony

    The College of Nursing, organized a comprehensive Induction Program for the newly admitted B.Sc. and M.Sc. (1st Year) Nursing students (Batch 2025–26), and a Tablet Distribution Ceremony.

    The event was graced by eminent dignitaries which included Padmashree Prof. R. K. Dhiman, Director, as Chief Guest, Col. Varun Bajpai (VSM), Executive Registrar, and Dr. Radha K., Professor & Principal.

    The inauguration was graced by Padma Shri Prof.R.K.Dhiman, Director, SGPGIMS, Prof. Devendra Gupta, CMS, SGPGIMS,Dr. Sanjay Niranjan, Organising Chairperson, IAP NEOCON 2025 and Dr.Ruchira Gupta National Joint Secretary Liaison, IAP, along with other dignitaries.

  • 22-24 Aug 2025: SERCON 2025 Highlights Breakthroughs in Emergency Radiology Aiming to Transform Patient Care

    The 12th Annual Conference of the Society for Emergency Radiology (SERCON 2025) organized by the dept. of Radio diagnosis.

    The conference brought together over 500 delegates from across India and abroad under the theme “From Tears to Twists: Mastering GI and MSK Emergencies.”

    The success of SERCON 2025 was attributed to the vision and guidance of Director Padmashree Dr. R. K. Dhiman, the leadership of Organising Chairperson Dr. Archna Gupta, and the meticulous planning of Organising Secretary Dr. Anuradha Singh
