Col Varun Bajpai, VSM is our Registrar since 03 March 2023. He got commissioned from The Indian Military Academy, Dehradun in the Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry. He has served in strenuous Counter Insurgency tenures in the Kashmir Valley and the North Eastern frontiers, where he was commended for gallantry and distinguished service by the Senior Army Commanders.

The duties of Executive Registrar envisage Overall Cadre Management of all the faculty members, Conduct of entrance, internal and exit examinations for various academic courses like MD/MS, DM/MCh, Post Doctoral Fellows, PDCC, PDAF etc at SGPGIMS. He also directly supervises various other graduate, post graduate and nursing courses run in College of Medical Technology and College of Nursing. As Registrar he is also a member secretary in the Governing Body of the Institute.

Besides the Academic and administrative duties of the Registrar, he has the additional charge of Nodal Officer Security which entails overall and comprehensive Security Management of SGPGIMS.

An illustrated career

While serving his battalion, Col Varun Bajpai, VSM got his calling when he was entrusted with the challenging responsibility of raising and establishing new Sainik School in Mizoram. He single handedly established the Sainik School in Chhingchhip, Mizoram and got it inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Mizoram in May 2017. Seeing his efficiency and competence, he was again tasked with establishing another Sainik School in Jhunjhunu which was stuck up for a very long time. Due to his efforts the Sainik School in Jhunjhunu was commissioned in record time with a sprawling campus. He also assisted in establishing Sainik School in East Siang in Arunachal Pradesh. The Chief Ministers of Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh praised his effort through appreciation letters. For his unrelenting hard work, exemplary foresight, meticulous planning, leadership and resilient commitment beyond the call of duty, The President of India conferred him the “Vishisth Seva Medal (VSM)” on 26 Jan 2020.

As a founder Principal of two new Sainik Schools he instituted path breaking reforms and changes to the teaching and training methodologies and also initiated the process of induction of girls as cadets in Sainik Schools. Academically he is a Masters in Social Work (MSW- specialized in Mental Health), MBA-Operations Management, PGDHRD, PG Diploma in Disaster Relief & Rehabilitation and has qualified UGC NET. He has also been trained at the Defense Institute of Psychological Research, New Delhi for Psychological and Group Testing Techniques and Advance Work Studies at Institute of Technology and Management, Mussorie.

He has been posted as General Manager with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (NHIDCL) where he expedited Land Acquisition and Forest Clearances for fast track construction of National Highways in the state of Uttarakhand. He was awarded “Indian Achievers Award” for his dedicated Services. In the current role as Executive Registrar with Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences, has played a key role in overall restructuring both colleges of Nursing and College of Medical Technology and enhancing the overall quality of teaching and training.

He is a public speaker and freelance writer on issues of National Security and Socio-Cultural aspects. He also guides and motivates the youth towards a career in the Armed Forces.
