The Center was conceived in 2004. It got into shape in 2018 and was dedicated to the public by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of UP, Yogi Adityanath ji, on October 15, 2018.
A G+6 building, CGBDT has shaped into a 112 bedded service consisting of 60 Surgical Beds (including Hepatobiliary surgery beds and transplant beds), 40 Hepatology beds (including acute liver intensive care ICU and pediatric hepatology beds with pediatric liver intensive care ICU beds), Liver dialysis bed, Transplant ICU beds (05) and a high dependency transplant unit, preoperative and postoperative beds and liver emergency receiving station and dedicated Hepatobiliary radiology services. A 13 bed ICU facility for HPB Surgery and Acute Care Hepatology is also housed in the center, which has its own Endoscopic, ERCP, Endosonography and Research Laboratories in addition to a 120 capacity Auditorium, an OPD Service, and a complete Radiology Component, and 4 Operation Theaters to serve as a stand alone facility.
The existing Gastroenterology and Surgical Gastroenterology services would continue to function as before – the new center would provide services beyond what is available today, and in a much more refined, cohesive and organized manner. It would be a huge enhancement in capacity of the Institute.
With the commissioning of this center, SGPGIMS could boast of the Largest Center of Gastroenterology in the India offering 292 beds in the form of Gastroenterology (60), Surgical Gastroenterology (60), Pediatric Gastroenterology (30) and Pediatric Surgical Specialties (30) and the Center for Hepatobiliary Diseases and Transplantation (112) with dedicated Radiology Services as well. With the newly created Department of Hepatology in the CHBDT being inaugurated on February 16, 2021, the Center is raring to take of in a big way
The Center would be a big manpower training and building facility to serve the needs of the State and the Nation – a huge Capacity Building Center.
