The 28th Convocation of SGPGIMS was celebrated on 16th of December 2023 in Shruti Auditorium of the institute. The function was organized under the chairmanship of Hon'ble Governor of Uttar Pradesh and visitor SGPGI, Smt Anandi Ben Patel Ji.
Ho'nble Minister of Health and Family welfare, Chemical and fertilizers, Govt of India, Mr Mansukh Laxman Bhai Mandaviya; Deputy Chief minister of Uttar Pradesh and Minister of Medical Education, Health and family welfare - Shri Brijesh Pathak Ji; State Minister, Medical Education Shri Mayankeshwar Saran Ji were also present on this occasion. The function was also graced by Shri Durga Shankar Mishar, the president of SGPGIMS. The principal secretory, medical education, Shri Parth Sarthi Sen Sharma was also present in the Convocation.
The convocation was started with traditional academic procession which was followed by 'Jal Bharo karykram' to indicate the importance of water in our life and promote water conservation. Shri Durga Shankar Mishra, the chief secreatory of Uttra Pradesh, gave welcome address as the president of the institute. He praised the good work done in the institute and the reputation earned by the institute at national and international level. He stressed upon the need of new energy in this era of Amrat Kal and expansion of health servcies in the state as well as the country. He congratulated the passing out students as well as the award winners for their hard work and success. He furtehr stressed that our students, with their skill and knowledge, will achieve the highest level of success in the world. He guided the students to remian hungry for knowledge as quoted by Steve Job, a famour personality.
Prof RK Dhiman, the director of the institure, presented the progress report as well as the future plans of the institute. He told that very soon we will be starting tele ICU facility to empower the state madical colleges.
Leiutenant General Dr Smt Madhuri Kanitkar was the cheif orator for the occasion. She is the Vice Chancellaor of the Maharatra Health University and has been decorated with several medals. She congratulated the passing out students and their parents. She stressed upon the education and research on public health services, need for low cost health care, and decentralization of the health servcies to the most remote villages of the country. She said thet SGPGIMS could paly a key role in achieving these targets.
UP state minister for Medical Education, Shri Mayankeshwar Saran ji addressed the gathering and encouraged the students and faculty for hard work and progress. Shri Brijesh Pathak also congratulated the passed out students. He told that the students should be ready of many more difficulties in their future life and their responsibility to provide health care to the every citizen of the state. Though the number of medical colleges and students have been increased in recent years but we need at least one medical collage in each district of the state. To improve the quality of nursing care, he stressed on need of one nursing colleges in each of the medical colleges.
The chief guest of the function, Mr Mansukh Bhai Mandviya, encouraged the students and faculty with his encouraging words. He said to the passing out students that they are entering into a new way of living after completing their student life. They shall fulfil the wishes of their parents and they shall achieve success in life so that their parents and teachers could feel honour. He said that medicine is not a profession but is a responsibility of service towards the society.
In out culture, hospital is like a temple and patients are being considered equivalent to god present in these temples. We should treat them with utmost empathy and care. A country can only be successful only if its citizens are healthy. Presently, we are celebrating 'Amrut Kal' and we all have to do efforts to achieve the dream of being a developed nation by the year 2047. This could only be achieved with intense devotion to the nation. This country belongs to Charak and Dhanvantry. The country has to be the first for all of us. After that, the honble Governer Smt Anandi Ben Patel addressed the gathering and congratulated the passed students as well as their parents. She said the studnets to keep their parents always happy and they should never forget them. She expressed her wish that next year more than half of the awards may to go to our girls.
She stressed upon the need of prevnetive medicine in present era. In this context, she thaked the Har Ghar Jal yojna of our esteemed prime minister Mr Narendra Modi ji which led to access to fresh and clean water to 1.9 crore houses in the state. She also stressed that we need to develop into a developed nation by the year 2047.
She also released the two books, which were written by Dr Sabaratnem from the Department of Endocrine Surgery of the institute. On this occasion, she herself gave gifts to the Central School students and the Anganwadi workers for distribution to the kids in their villages.
The program ended with the vote of thanks proposed by professor Shaleen Kumar, the dean of the institute.
SGPGI celebrated its 27th Convocation day on 13th October in Shruti Auditorium. Degrees and awards were given to the passout meritorious students. HE, the Governor of Uttar Pradesh and Visitor, SGPGI Smt. Anandi Ben Patel presided over the function. Professor S P Thyagarajan, Former Vice Chancellor of Madras University, Prof of Eminence & Dean, (Research) Sri Ramachandra University, Chancellor of Avinashilingam Institute for Home Sciences and Higher education for Women (Deemed university) was the Chief guest of the function.
The function was also graced by Hon'ble Shri Brijesh Pathak, Deputy CM, UP and Cabinet minister for medical education, health and family welfare, govt of UP, Shri Mayankeshwar Sharan Singh, state minister for medical education and Shri Durga Shankar Shankar Mishra, Chief Secretary, Government of UP and President, SGPGI.
After the arrival of academic procession with traditional grandeur, every one rose to the National anthem.This was followed by customary lamp lighting and invoking the blessings of Ma Saraswati, the goddess of learning. The Director presented mementoes to the dignitaries on the dias. Thereafter, hon'ble Governor Smt. Anandiban Patelji declared the convocation formally open. Prof SR Naik Award, Prof S S Agarwal Award and Prof R K Sharma Award were conferred upon the deserving winners by the Hon'ble Governor and degrees were awarded to the students in various specialities.

Director, Professor R K Dhiman presented institute's progress report of the last one year.
Professor S P Thyagarajan, the Chief Guest delivered the convocation address.
He stressed the need to pace up with the global advancement in the field of medical education and health care along with maintaining a sacrosanct patient doctor relationship of empathy.
HE Smt Anandiben Patelji addressed the learned gathering. Congratulating the award winners and recipients of degrees, she said that they should always take care of their parents and be sensitive to the patients. Their empathic behaviour with patients and staff makes the environment congenial which translates into speedy recovery of the patients. She congratulated the institute for successfully performing two robotic assisted kidney transplants and first robotic thyroid surgery,of which, the latter was done for the first time in India.
Shri Brijesh Pathak, Deputy CM congratulated Director Professor RK Dhiman for leading the institute towards progress in a dynamic and efficient manner.
School children of Kendriya Vidhyalaya, SGPGI received gifts by the Hon'ble Governor as a token of affection.
The program ended with the vote of thanks proposed by Prof. S P Ambesh, Dean, SGPGI.
SGPGI celebrated the culmination of education of meritorious students in a poignant convocation ceremony today in Shruti Auditorium. Convocation acquired a new meaning this time as the Hon'ble President of India , H.E. Shri Ram Nath Kovind graced the occasion as the Chief guest.
Hon'ble Smt. Anandiben Patel, Governor, Uttar Pradesh and Visitor SGPGI, presided over the function.

Savita Kovind ji, the first lady, cabinet minister for medical education, finance and parliamentary affairs Shri Suresh Khanna Ji, state minister for medical education , technical education & finance Shri Sandeep Singh Ji and chief secretary, Government of UP and President, SGPGI.
The Convocation ceremony was organised in hybrid mode keeping in mind Covid 19 protocol. Only senior faculty members were invited physically along with the various dignitaries who graced the occasion alongwith degree and award recepients. Rest of the faculty members and Institute office bearers and degree recepients families joined via video conferencing. She congratulated award winners and recipients of degrees and said that they should never lose humanitarian touch as they have a social responsibility towards mankind.
The Chief Guest, Hon'ble Shri Ram Nath Kovind blessed the students with his inspiring and kind words. He said that an Institute is not known only for its building and structure, but the consistent efforts of its staff in the field of research, patient care and teaching add to its recognition. He applauded our scientists for developing indigenous vaccines against Covid 19. Shri Sandeep Singh ji proposed the vote of thanks. The convocation ceremony ended with distribution of degrees to the passout students.
SGPGI celebrated the culmination of education of 194 students in a poignant Convocation ceremony, on Saturday. In the Lecture Theatre Complex, which was both traditional and meaningful. Wearing traditional academic regalia and walking up the stage is the dream of every student. Due to Covid pandemic, the occasion was observed in hybrid mode. A select number of guests only attended physically, all the other guests joined via videoconferencing. The program started in the customary manner with the arrival of the Academic procession and welcoming the Dignitaries and guests, all those present at the venue and those connected via Zoom.The blessings of the Goddess Saraswati were invocated with Saraswati Vandana and Lamp lighting. The program started with welcoming of guests by Shri Rajendra kumar Tiwari, Chief secretary. UP and President, SGPGI. He welcomed all the dignitaries on dias and elaborated the institute's progress in various disciplines. H.E Smt. Anandiben Patelji, Hon’ble Governor of U. P presided over the function and conferred the degrees to 194 students who had successfully completed their DM/Mch/PhD/MD/PDCC and BSc (Nursing) training. The Governor blessed the audience with her words of wisdom. She stressed the need to have intensive research program in order to make treatment of various diseases available and affordable. She appreciated the idea of inviting school children to attend and see the grand ceremony of University Convocation for their encouragement. School-children who were invited to be a part of the convocation programme so that they get inspired to take up Medicine as a career were given gifts and nutritional hampers by the Governor. Honoris Causa degree was conferred upon Dr. Gagandeep Kang FNA, FASc, FNASc, FFPH, FAAM, FRS. Dr Kang is a clinician scientist, presently working as a Professor in the Division of Gastrointestinal Sciences at the Christian Medical College, Vellor. She is the first woman Indian scientist to be inducted as Fellow of Royal Society. Dr. Mammen Chandy, Director, Tata Medical Centre, Kolkata graced the occasion as Chief Guest . Padamshree Dr Chandy,was CIBMTR 2014 Distinguished Service Award Recipient.He was the recipient of DSc , Honoria Causa Jadavpur University, Kolkata 2018 and DSc , Honoria Causa Amity University, Kolkata 2019. His talk focused on “Future of Medicineâ€Â.His excellent oratorial skills enthralled the audience. He said thatthere is nothing beautiful to leave something good for the humanity. Covid times have taught good things too: Zoom and Hybrid meetings, humanity rising to meet crisis, specially role of Health care workers and emphasis on building health infrastructure. With vaccine being rolled out, we may see better times. He further said that some failure in life is inevitable and teaches us more than success can. Professor R K Dhiman, Director, SGPGIMS, presented the Institute report for the last one year in his speech.He talked about Covid preparedness of SGPGI and tackling Covid head on with medical expertise, manpower and infrastructural changes. RCH (Rajdhani Corona Hospital)was set up as a stand alone facility ,Virtual ICU sessions ,Regular rounds over ZOOM with multispeciality inputs to improve patient outcome, HCW training and sensitization,Training of 52 other medical colleges in the state of Uttar Pradesh, Screening stations at SGPGI ,Holding area for Non covid patients needing admissions-were all highlighted.At the same time,non covid work too went on and was mentioned as well as the contribution of all the Departments ,in these tough and demanding times.SGPGI did not shy away from its social responsibilities. 6 children undergoing treatment under the NTEP (National TB elimination program )of the Government were adopted by SGPGI doctors and staff as per the brainchild of Madam Hon’ble Governor. Prof S R Naik award for outstanding research investigator for the year 2020 was given to Prof. Udai Chand Ghoshal, Professor, Department of Gastroenterology. Prof S.S Agrawal award for Excellence in Research was given to Dr P.V Sai Saran, Department of Critical Care Medicine. Prof. R.K.Sharma award for Best DM and MCh. Student:The Best DM student award went to Dr. Hafis Muhammed V.K, Department of Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology .The Best MCh. student award was bagged by Dr. Valiveru Chakrapani Ramya, Department of Endocrine Surgery . Shri Suresh Khanna, Honourable Minister of Finance, Parliamentary Affair and Medical Education, Government of Uttar Pradesh, also addressed the gathering. He congratulated Dr. R.K Dhiman for presenting a very bright and optimistic report of the institute. He said that once one gets into medical profession, he or she can get satisfaction only through service. Dean, SGPGI, Prof S.K Mishra proposed the vote of thanks. The program ended with the National Anthem and the academic procession leaving the Lecture theatre.
