The Centre of Excellence,Biosafety Level 3 Culture Drug Susceptibility Testing and Molecular Next Generation Sequencing Tuberculosis Laboratory was inaugurated on 27th December 2024 at SGPGIMS.
Dr Richa Mishra is the Nodal Officer and Incharge of the laboratory which has been built under the able guidance of Director DR. R.K. Dhiman over an area of 3000sq feet at an approximate cost of 3.5 crore rupees.On this occasion an MOU was also signed between Indian Oil Corporation Limited UP State Office 1 (UP SO 1) & SGPGIMS under the CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiative.
The event was presided over by Padamshri Director DR. R.K. Dhiman and attended by General Manager CSR IOCL UPSO1 Shri Atul Kapur, DR Alok Nath, HOD Pulmonary Medicine, State Tuberculosis Officer (STO) Dr. Shailendra Bhatnagar and District Tuberculosis Officer, Dr. Atul Singhal.
Dr. RK Dhiman said that the fully equipped State of the Art lab, with the most recent molecular diagnostic techniques will provide a huge impetus to the goal of eliminating TB by 2025 in the state of Uttar Pradesh. It will benefit not only the patients being referred to SGPGIMS but will also become the apex lab for difficult to treat drug resistant patients from several districts of UP.
Dr Richa Mishra told that the lab is the first of its kind in UP and as a Centre of Excellence for Tuberculosis it is equipped with the most recent molecular diagnostic tests at par with any lab in the world. Apart from the culture and automated drug susceptibility testing the lab has the fully automated facility for expanded testing to all the first line anti-tubercular drugs through the Line Probe and XDR CBNAAT assay. The Next Generation Sequencing technology that is being established through the generous support of IOCL SO1 is the most recent and the first to be established in the State of UP. It is approved by World Health Organization as the most recent molecular technique for comprehensive testing of Drug Resistant tuberculosis patients and accurate tailoring of treatment.

41st foundation day of the institute was celebrated on 14th December, 2024 to recognize the milestones achieved so far in the field of Teaching, Training and Research and also to acknowledge the significant contribution of staff in building this organization. Foundation day celebrations started in the morning with distribution of nutritional packs and get well soon cards for admitted patients. To commemorate the occasion, a Voluntary Blood Donation camp was organised by the Department of Tranfusion medicine. Tree Plantation was also done in the campus premises. Hon'ble CM, Yogi Aditya Nath ji was the chief guest of the function. Shri Brijesh Pathakji, Cabinet Minister, Medical Education, Medical Health and Family Welfare, Hon'ble Shri Mayankeshwar Sharan Singh, State Minister, Medical Education, UP also graced the occasion. Professor R K Dhiman, the Institute's director addressed the august gathering. Foundation Day Oration was delivered by Dr Geetanjali Batmanbane, Pro VC, Gitam Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, Visakhapatnam. On this occasion, awards for best research were also given based on the presented research works, which were showcased on 13th December on Institute's 5th Research day. Awards were also given to the Best Technician, Best Nursing Officer and Best Senior Nursing Officer, Best MD student, Best Mch and Best DM students of the institute. The award winners were elated to receive the awards from Hon’ble Chief Minister Yogi Adityanathji.
Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow, celebrated 5th Research Day of the Institute. It was started for the first time in SGPGI in 2020 led by the present Director Prof. R K Dhiman. Research helps in bringing quality healthcare to the patients adapted as per local needs in affordable cost. It also helps in innovation and application to fulfilthe vision of the nation to make things in India.
During the 5th research day, approximately 300 posters (200 Plus of students and 100 of faculty members) were submitted for presentation, which were evaluated by senior faculty members of other Institutes such as KGMU, RML, KSSCI, CSIR, CDRI, and IITR. 19 Awards were given to the Faculty Members and 24 awards presented under the student category.
The key note address was delivered by Dr.KetanRajawat, Associate Professor, Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT, Kanpurwhich focused on AI in healthcare.
Director, Prof R K Dhiman who initiated this tradition of celebrating Research Day in SGPGI in 2020 expressed happiness that ithad increased the awareness and enthusiasm among researchers as number of poster presentations had significantly increased in comparison of previous years. This had also increased the intramural and extra mural grant in SGPGI.
The newly constructed Advance Diabetic Center, Tele ICU, Saloni Heart Centre ( Ist phase) and Hostel for students of College of Medical Technology, SGPGI were inaugurated by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Shri Yogi Aditya Nath on 22nd October 2024.
The function took place in the CV Raman auditorium of Lecture theatre. Chief Secretary, Shri Manoj Kumar Singh delivered the welcome address.
This was followed by the presentation of a detailed report of the facilities by Prof R K Dhiman, Director, SGPGI. He expressed his gratitude to the government of UP for extending full support in completing the target within record time.

A Memo Of Understanding was signed and exchanged between Director SGPGI, Professor R K Dhiman and Director, Saloni Heart Center (Centre of Excellence) Mrs. Mrinalini Seth in the dignified presence of Hon’ble Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
Hon’ble Chief Minister congratulated SGPGI for receiving a gift of Advance Diabetic Center, Saloni Heart Center ( first phase),Tele ICU and CMT hostel just before Diwali. He said that presently 64 districts have Medical colleges in UP. His Government is dedicated to open one medical college in every district of Uttar Pradesh to provide medical facility to people at their native place. He also spoke about the success of complete eradication of Encephalitis eradication in Eastern UP. He also appreciated the concept of Tele ICU which came into existence during Covid pandemic. He thanked Dr V Mohan Reddy, Head Pediatric Cardio thoracic surgery unit California University for extending all clinical help.
On an average, 15000 is the footfall of patients and their attendants, who visit SGPGI daily. This brought the idea of Rainbasera for 1000 attendants of patients visiting SGPGI.

02 अक्टूबर 2024 को, भारत ने स्वच्छ भारत दिवस का आयोजन करते हुए एक महत्वपूर्ण मील का पत्थर हासिल किया, जो स्वच्छ भारत मिशन की 10वीं वर्षगांठ के रूप में मनाया गया, जिसे माननीय प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी द्वारा 2 अक्टूबर 2014 को लॉन्च किया गया था। यह दिन दोहरा महत्व रखता है, क्योंकि यह दो श्रद्धेय नेताओं, महात्मा गांधी और लाल बहादुर शास्त्री की जयंती भी मनाता है, जिन्होंने सादगी और आत्मनिर्भरता के सिद्धांतों को अपनाया। इस वर्ष की थीम, "स्वभाव स्वच्छता, संस्कार स्वच्छता" न केवल स्वच्छता की आदतों को बल्कि इस लोकाचार को संचालित करने वाले मूल्यों और संस्कृति को भी विकसित करने के महत्व को रेखांकित करती है। स्वच्छ भारत मिशन की सफलता का श्रेय काफी हद तक इसके गुमनाम नायकों - स्वच्छता चैंपियंस और सफाई मित्रों - के समर्पण और अथक प्रयासों को दिया जाता है, जिन्होंने स्वच्छ, सुरक्षित सार्वजनिक स्थानों को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए अग्रिम पंक्ति में काम किया है। उत्तर प्रदेश राज्य में स्वच्छ भारत मिशन (एसबीएम) के प्रभाव को बढ़ाने के लिए चल रहे प्रयासों के हिस्से के रूप में माननीय स्वास्थ्य और परिवार कल्याण राज्य मंत्री, श्रीमती अनुप्रिया पटेल ने 02 अक्टूबर 2024 को SGPGIMS, लखनऊ का दौरा किया और स्वच्छ भारत दिवस (SBD) कार्यक्रम में भाग लिया। उनके साथ माननीय विधायक डाक्टर आर के पटेल भी मौजूद थे। उनकी यात्रा पूरे देश में स्वच्छता की संस्कृति को बढ़ावा देने और स्वच्छता सुविधाओं में सुधार करने की सरकार की प्रतिबद्धता को दर्शाती है। एस जी पी जी आई में कार्यक्रम सुबह 10:00 बजे डॉ. एच.जी. खुराना ऑडिटोरियम, सेंट्रल लाइब्रेरी कॉम्प्लेक्स में शुरू हुआ, जिसमें स्वच्छ भारत मिशन की उपलब्धियों का जश्न मनाने और स्वच्छता प्रयासों को बढ़ावा देने में व्यक्तियों और संगठनों के योगदान को मान्यता देने के लिए विभिन्न गतिविधियों का आयोजन किया गया। माननीय अतिथियों का का स्वागत गर्मजोशी से उन्हें पुष्पगुच्छ देकर किया गया, जो उनके योगदान के प्रति गर्म आतिथ्य और प्रशंसा का प्रतीक था। तत्पश्चात उपस्थित अतिथिगण प्रधानमंत्री के संबोधन का सीधा प्रसारण देखने के लिए एकत्रित हुए। प्रधानमंत्री ने अपने संबोधन में स्वच्छ भारत मिशन के महत्व पर प्रकाश डाला, पिछले दशक में इसकी उपलब्धियों का जश्न मनाया, और स्वच्छता और सफाई को बढ़ावा देने में सभी नागरिकों की सामूहिक जिम्मेदारी को रेखांकित किया। प्रसारण के बाद, एक सफाई अभियान (स्वच्छता अभियान) आयोजित किया गया, जिसका उद्देश्य प्रतिभागियों को अपने आस-पास की सफाई को बढ़ावा देने के लिए व्यावहारिक गतिविधियों में भाग लेने के लिए प्रोत्साहित करना था। इसके बाद कार्यक्रम की शुरुआत हुई और संस्थान के निदेशक पद्मश्री प्रोफेसर आर.के. धीमन ने विशिष्ट गणमान्य व्यक्तियों को औपचारिक स्वागत के लिए मंच पर आमंत्रित किया। विकास और पर्यावरण संरक्षण के प्रतीक के रूप में, गणमान्य व्यक्तियों को पौधे भेंट किए गए। इसके साथ ही महात्मा गांधी और लाल बहादुर शास्त्री को पुष्पांजलि अर्पित की गई। यह श्रद्धांजलि उनके अमूल्य योगदान का सम्मान करती है और उनके आदर्शों के महत्व और आज के समाज में उनके संदेशों की प्रासंगिकता पर जोर देती है। प्रो. आर. के. धीमन ने अपने संबोधन मे संस्थान की चल रही कोशिशों को रेखांकित किया, जो स्वच्छ भारत मिशन के लक्ष्यों के साथ मेल खाती हैं। उन्होंने स्वास्थ्य, स्वच्छता और सफाई को बढ़ावा देने के लिए संस्थान और व्यापक समुदाय में लागू की गई पहलों का विस्तृत वर्णन किया। कार्यक्रम के दौरान स्वच्छता चैंपियंस और सफाई मित्रों का दिल से अभिनंदन किया गया, जिन्हें प्रशंसा प्रमाण पत्र प्रदान कर उनके अटूट समर्पण और स्वच्छ भारत मिशन की गति को आगे बढ़ाने में उनके प्रभावशाली योगदान को मान्यता दी गई। सम्मान समारोह के बाद माननीय स्वास्थ्य और परिवार कल्याण राज्य मंत्री श्रीमती अनुप्रिया पटेल ने सभा को संबोधित किया, जिसमें उन्होंने स्वच्छता और सफाई को बढ़ाने के लिए सरकार की पहलों पर जोर दिया। उन्होंने नागरिकों को अपनी दैनिक जीवनशैली में स्थायी स्वच्छता प्रथाओं को अपनाने के लिए प्रोत्साहित किया और सभी उपस्थित लोगों से स्वच्छ भारत मिशन में सक्रिय रूप से भाग लेने और भविष्य की पीढ़ियों के लिए एक स्वच्छ वातावरण बनाने का संकल्प लेने का आह्वान किया। अंत मे डॉ. आर. हर्षवर्धन, प्रोफेसर और विभागाध्यक्ष, अस्पताल प्रशासन ने धन्यवाद ज्ञापित किया। इस कार्यक्रम में 200 से अधिक प्रतिनिधियों ने भाग लिया।
The department of endocrine surgery SGPGIMS Lucknow celebrated it’s 35th foundation day on 7th September 2024. A scintillating event was held at the telemedicine auditorium of SGPGIMS, which was attended by the director, dean, invited speakers, all faculty, resident doctors, nursing staff, paramedical and office staff of the department of endocrine surgery and many other departments of the institute. A large number of department alumni, who could not travel to be there in person, joined the event virtually from their own places. The department of endocrine & breast surgery SGPGIMS was started on 07th September 1989, with the joining of its first faculty member and founding head of department, Dr SK Mishra. It has since grown to become one of the leading academic centre for surgical practice, teaching and training, and research in the field of endocrine surgery and breast surgery in the world.
The director of the institute, Professor RK Dhiman, in his message on this occasion congratulated all the faculty members, the resident doctors, nursing staff, other paramedical staff and secretarial and support staff of the department on this momentous occasion. He commended the commitment of the members of this department towards maintaining very high standards of clinical and academic work, and for following the highest standards of medical ethics. He noted that not only the department of endocrine & Breast surgery have treated and made a positive impact in lives of tens of thousands of patients, faculty of the department have excelled in fields of academics and have contributed to the overall growth and prestige of the institute. On the research front too, the department has performed well, with numerous grants, publication, and presentations in major national and international conferences. Head of the department Professor Gaurav Agarwal has been listed in the world top 2% most cited scientist in the world list for third year running. And it comes as no surprise that many of the residents of the department have been awarded at institute level, national and international conferences, which are reflective of the culture of academic excellence that the department has cultivated over the years.
Dean of SGPGIMS Professor Shaleen Kumar, in his address at this event commended the department of endocrine & breast surgery for its overall growth and focus on quality of care of its patients. He specifically noted the high-quality breast cancer care being imparted at this department, and congratulated the surgeons of the department for carrying out world-class breast oncoplastic and sentinel lymph node surgeries. Welcome address was delivered by Dr Anjali Mishra, and Dr Sabaretnam introduced the concept of unique symposium on “Academic surgical practice” conducted by the department on this occasion.
Reviewing the performance of the past one year, Professor Gaurav Agarwal, Head department of Endocrine Surgery presented the annual report of the department activities. He complimented the members of the department for selflessly working in best interest of the patients and institute, undeterred by numerous challenges. The unfortunate fire accident in the operation theatre complex of the institute in Dec 2023 too did not deter them, and the members of the department, lead ably by the head of the department, and all its faculty members faced this tragedy with great commitment to restore the services very soon. The institute ensured that they were provided alternative OTs in the robotic surgery centre, so that the department could restart their surgical services within weeks of the fire accident. Dr Agarwal informed about the overall qualitative and quantitative growth in the department’s functioning in this year too. He thanked the SGPGI administration and Govt. of Uttar Pradesh for their unwavering support to the department.
To commemorate it’s 35th foundation day, the department organised a unique academic activity in form of a symposium on “Academic Surgical Practice”. Professor VK Kapoor, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Mahatma Gandhi Health University Jaipur, and Retired Professor and Head of Surgical Gastroenterology SGPGI delivered an enthralling talk on “Attracting and Retaining talent in academic surgery”. Attracting talented young surgeons to academic institutions is indeed a problem of current time, which Dr Kapoor highlighted while sharing statistics of large number of vacancies in national medical institutes including AIIMS, PGIMER Chandigarh and SGPGIMS. Besides, he provided numerous thoughts on how to keep young talented people enthused and stimulated to continue providing high-quality clinical, services and maintain high standards in academic and research arena.
Professor Sanjay Behari, currently Director, SCTIMST Thiruvananthapuram and former head of Neurosurgery at SGPGIMS Lucknow talked about “Surgical Practice- Beyond Usual”. Professor BijuPottakkat, currently Head department of Surgical Gastroenterology, JIPMER Puducherry, and an alumnus of SGPGIMS spoke on “How to minimize errors in Medical Practice”.
Following these talks, an open house discussion was held, where faculty, residents and staff from various departments of the institute participated and aired their views and asked questions.
संजय गांधी स्नातकोत्तर आयुर्विज्ञान संस्थान में 15 अगस्त को देश का 78 वां स्वतंत्रता दिवस पूरे उत्साह और उमंग के साथ मनाया गया। संस्थान के निदेशक प्रोफेसर राधा कृष्ण धीमन ने परंपरागत रूप से ध्वजारोहण किया। राष्ट्रगान के पश्चात उपस्थित संकाय सदस्यों और कर्मचारियों को संबोधित करते हुए उन्होने कहा कि यह देश की आजादी का जश्न मनाने, इसे हासिल करने के लिए किए गए बलिदानों को याद करने और आजादी के बाद से भारत की प्रगति को प्रतिबिंबित करने का दिन है। यह लोकतंत्र, धर्मनिरपेक्षता और सामाजिक न्याय के प्रति भारत की प्रतिबद्धता को पुष्ट करने का भी दिन है। भारत के 78वें स्वतंत्रता दिवस 2024 की आधिकारिक थीम है "विकसित भारत" । यह सन् 2047 तक भारत को "विकसित राष्ट्र" में बदलने की सरकार की महत्वाकांक्षा को दर्शाता है, जब राष्ट्र स्वतंत्रता की सौवी वर्षगांठ मनायेगा।
निदेशक महोदय ने पिछले एक वर्ष की उपलब्धियों का लेखा जोखा प्रस्तुत किया, जिसमें रोगी सेवा, शोध और शिक्षण तीनों स्तंभो के अतिरिक्त एक बहुत महत्वपूर्ण चौथे स्तम्भ आउटरीच प्रोग्राम का भी उल्लेख किया। उन्होने कहा कि संजय गांधी पीजीआई की उत्कृष्ट सुविधाओं का लाभ राज्य के 80 जिलों को भी मिलना चाहिए और यह आउटरीच कार्यक्रम के द्वारा ही हो सकता है।
उन्होंने कहा कि सबसे बड़ी उपलब्धि मेडिकल, पैरामेडिकल व अन्य कैडर में नई भर्तियों के लिए नियुक्तियों की प्रक्रिया शुरू करने का कार्य था, जो सफलता पूर्ण किया जा रहा है। संस्थान मे 91 फैकेल्टी पदो पर भर्तिया हुई हैं। इस समय 361 से अधिक फैकल्टी कार्य कर रहे हैं। नॉन फैकल्टी पदों पर 1798 पदों का विज्ञापन दिया गया था, जिसमें से 1532 पदो पर नियुक्तिया हो चुकी हैं। उन्होंने एडवांस डायबिटिक सेंटर व एडवांस पीडियाटिक सेंटर का भी उल्लेख किया। हब और स्पोक मॉडल पर आधारित टेली आई सी यू के विषय में भी उन्होंने कहा कि पीजीआई और उत्तर प्रदेश के 6 मेडिकल कॉलेजो के बीच टेली ICU भी एक बड़ी उपलब्धि है, जिसके द्वारा गंभीर रूप से बीमार रोगियो को उनके शहर मे ही उपचार दिया जा सकेगा।
उन्होंने सलोनी हार्ट फाउंडेशन के विषय मे भी जानकारी दी, जिसके आने से congenital heart disease से ग्रस्त बच्चो को पीडियाट्रिक कार्डियोलॉजी में उत्कृष्ट चिकित्सा सेवा प्रदान की जा सकेगी।
उन्होने बताया कि पी जी आई मे बड़ी तादाद मे आने वाले रोगियो और उनके परिचारको के ठहरने के लिये 1000 बिस्तरो का रैन बसेरा भी निर्माण की प्रक्रिया मे है। इस कार्यक्रम में बड़ी संख्या में लोगों ने भाग लिया। स्टाफ द्वारा देशभक्ति के गीत प्रस्तुत किए गए। स्वतंत्रता दिवस के उपलक्ष्य मे आयोजित निबंध व स्लोगन प्रतियोगिता के विजेताओ को पुरस्कृत किया गया।, संस्थान के 25 कर्मठ सदस्यों को उनके उत्कृष्ट व उत्तम कार्य निष्पादन के लिए निदेशक द्वारा सम्मानित किया गया।
इस अवसर पर संस्थान के डीन प्रो शालीन कुमार, मुख्य चिकित्सा अधीक्षक प्रो संजय धिराज , चिकित्सा अधीक्षक प्रो वी के पालीवाल, संस्थान के संयुक्त निदेशक (प्रशासन ) प्रोफेसर रजनीश कुमार सिंह, एक्जक्यूटिव रजिस्ट्रार कर्नल वरुण बाजपेई, अन्य संकाय सदस्य व वरिष्ठ अधिकारी और कर्मचारी भी उपस्थित थे।
On world hepatitis day on 28thJuly 2024, the Department of Hepatology SGPGIMS,organized a two-day master class for postgraduates’ medical students and practitioner on viral hepatitis. Department of Hepatology, first department in the state of Uttar Pradesh is providing dedicated services to the patients suffering from advanced liver diseases. The department is running a free treatment center for the diagnosis and treatment of viral hepatitis under the National Viral Hepatitis Control Programme.
The training programme included extensive series of lectures and discussions on different types of viral hepatitis, with special focus on hepatitis B and C. As viral hepatitis can be deadly and is taking millions of lives annually the initiative from this newly formed department can be a game changer for the medical personnels and society. RK Dhiman, the director of the institute was the person behind starting the national viral hepatitis control program in the country. On this occasion, Dr RK Dhiman told that viral hepatitis could only be eliminated by 2030 if we could train our young doctors and practicing physicians about the importance of viral hepatitis. Dr Amit Goel, the professor and Head of the Hepatology Department, was the course director and delivered lectures on diagnosis and management of viral hepatitis and orchestrated the entire training program. Dr Amit also head of WHO collaborating Centre for viral hepatitis. He also serve to WHO as a subject expert for viral hepatitis.
To grace the occasion, director SGPGIMS, Dr R K Dhiman was present and stressed on need of screening for viral hepatitis and early treatment. Dr Shaleen Kumar, Dean of the institute stressed that viral hepatitis is a public health problem and to Dr Amit Goel,OD hepatology stressed on vaccination strategies and diagnostic modalities. Dr Ajay Kumar Mishra, and Dr Surender Singh, faculty department of hepatology also educated the students and ensured the interactive sessions. Many renowned gastroenterologist from King George Medical University and Medanta Hospital participated as faculty in this activity. The training programme was participated by over 150 medical students and practicing physicians from Lucknow and several adjacent districts. Students were also given opportunity to show their research work on viral hepatitis and were awarded prize for the same.

Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS), Lucknow takes a monumental step towards inclusivity and healthcare equity with the inauguration of its Transgender Clinical Care Unit on 19th July 2024. The transgender community faces a huge challenge in availing adequate healthcare in our society.This pioneering initiative, first of its kind in North India, aims to provide multidisciplinary specialized medical services and comprehensive care tailored to the specific needs of the transgender community.
This comprehensive facility is managed by Department of Endocrinology as the nodal department and includes hormone replacement therapy, surgical procedures like reduction mammoplasty, genital reconstructive surgery, counselling, psychiatric support, and dermatology services. Department of Plastic Surgery and Burns (Prof Rajiv Agarwal, Head of department), Department of Urology and Renal Transplantation (Prof M.S. Ansari, Head of department), Department of Psychiatry (Dr Romil Saini), Department of Dermatology and Venereal Diseases (Dr Ajit Kumar) and Department of Microbiology (Prof Rungmei S.K. Marak, Head of department) are key care providers. Other medical issues will be dealt by other departments of the Institute as and when required. The services will be provided through weekly OPD (every Friday) and admission facility by a dedicated six-bedded ward.
A transgender person is someone whose gender identity differs from that assigned to them at birth. In Indiathe transgender community has a rich cultural history dating back centuries. The 2011 census of India found that nearly 5 lakh individuals are transgender. This community has traditionally been marginalized and stigmatized. However, recent years have seen positive shifts in societal attitudes and legal recognition in large parts due to efforts by the Uttar Pradesh Transgender Welfare Board under the Government of Uttar Pradesh.
The inauguration ceremony was graced by prominent community leaders, healthcare professionals, and advocates for transgender rights, emphasizing the collaborative effort required to achieve comprehensive healthcare reform. The chief guest of the ceremony was Smt. Devika Devendra S Mangalamukhi, State executive member and advisor to the Transgender Welfare Board, Government of Uttar Pradesh. She emphasized the challenges faced by the community and the steps taken by the government in ensuring their welfare. She hailed the efforts of the Institution in providing care to this marginalised section of society.
Prof. (Dr.)Radha Krishna Dhiman, Director of SGPGIMS, expressed his enthusiasm about the launch, stating, "We are committed to ensuring that every individual receives compassionate and appropriate healthcare. The establishment of this unit underscores our dedication to serving all members of our community with dignity and respect."
Professor (Dr.) Sushil Gupta, Head of Department of Endocrinology, who is heading the Unit, spoke about the challenges faced in the completion of this endeavour. He recalled how the first step in this direction was made at a multidisciplinary workshop on ‘Medical Issues of Transgenders - Right To Health Initiative’ conducted in the latter half of 2023 to raise awareness on the health issues faced by this community. He further detailed the untiring efforts made by Prof R.K. Dhiman, Director, Prof Sanjay Dhiraj, Chief Medical superintendent, Prof Preeti Dabadghao, Prof Subhash Yadav and other members of administration to bring this ambitious task to fruition.
The one week long activities on Yoga practises organised by SGPGI to commemorate the 10th International Yoga Day culmonated on 21st June 2024 with the demonstration of various Aasanas by Yogacharya Dr Ravindra Verma and Aanchal Verma.
During the week, various sessions were held for different groups which included Yoga for pregnant women and for those suffering from neurological disorders.
On 20th June 2024, a yoga seminar was held. Diector of the Institute, Professor R K Dhiman addressed the gathering in Telemedicine Auditoroium about lifestyle disesases, the importance of movement and exercise specially of yoga. Dr Amita Aggarwal, acting Dean also enlightened the audience about what yoga means. Dr Amarjeet Yadav from department of Yoga, Delhi University shared his indepth knowledge about Yoga as a holistic way of approaching life.Yoga means going inwards, hence it cannot be equated to just physical exercise.
Professor Vimal kumar Paliwal spoke about how stress can harm, when it is continuously present at a high level and how yogic life can help us.
Dr. Prerna Kapoor, Senior Physician, General Hospital, discussed the importance of yoga in women’s health.Yoga is the pefect companion for a woman right from adolescence till old age and has far reaching benefits in both health and disease.
Dr Sandeep Khooba,faculty member, Anaesthesiology talked about role of yoga in pain management.
On the final day on 21st June, International Yoga Day was observed at SGPGIMS, Lecture Theatre Complex from 6:30 Am to 8:00 am. A gathering of 650 people including faculty members , officers , para medical staff and others attended the session where Dr. Ravindra Verma, Yog guru and his wife Mrs Anchal Verma coordinated the session.
On this occasion, Prof R K Dhiman expressed that this year’s theme - “Yoga for Self and Society” — reminds us of yoga’s important role in enhancing people’s lives and the wider community. Dr. Ravindra Verma also expressed that Yoga recognizes the ancient practice’s unmatched power to deliver healing, inner peace and physical, spiritual and mental well-being.
On the occasion of World Hand Hygiene Day, which is celebrated on 5th May every year, the Department of Microbiology, SGPGIMS organized a Rangoli competition based on theme of this year “Promoting knowledge and capacity building of health care workers through innovative an impactful training and education, on infection prevention and control, including hand hygiene” on 3rd May 2024, along with the World Hand Hygiene Day celebration, the department also celebrated 36th Foundation Day and Alumni meet on 4th May 2024 in Telemedicine auditorium.
On 4th May, the program commenced with lamp lighting ceremony by the Chief guests Dr. R.K Dhiman, Director, SGPGIMS, Dr. Shaleen Kumar, Dean, SGPGIMS and Dr. Rungmei S K Marak, Prof & Head, Department of Microbiology. The ceremony was accompanied by the faculty members and Alumni of the department.
Dr. R K Dhiman, Director addressed the gathering with salient points on Hand Hygiene awareness and congratulated the rangoli competition participants and winners. He highlighted the importance of hand hygiene for patient care and to prevent the increasing burden of drug resistance in bacteria in ICUs. Keeping hands clean can prevent 1 in 3 diarrhoeal diseases and 1 in 5 respiratory infections such as common cold or the Flu. These infections can be easily be prevented by hand rub or just washing hands with soap and water. He also stressed that we should not forget what the COVID-19 pandemic has taught us i.e. wearing masks and hand hygiene. The first prize winners of the rangoli competition aptly depicted the theme and quoted “Your hands, Your call, What they carry Impacts All!”
Dr. Shaleen Kumar, Dean further added to the hand hygiene importance among healthcare workers for better patient care. Dr. Manodeep Sen, Prof. Dept of Microbiology, RMLIMS delivered a talk on “Promoting Knowledge and capacity building on Infection Prevention and Control”, sharing valuable insights into proper blood collection techniques, recommendations for hand hygiene, selection of appropriate hand hygiene products and objectives of the WHO Hand hygiene day. Prof. Chinnoy Sahu Additional Professor, Microbiology SGPGIMS. delivered a talk on” the role of breakpoints of susceptibility Vs MICs breakpoints”.
An informative skit and dance themed on the World Hand Hygiene Day, was presented by the MSc students and Resident doctors, Dept. of Microbiology, SGPGIMS. Dr. K N Prasad, Professor & Ex-HOD addressed the gathering by sharing his memorable experiences in the Department of Microbiology followed by Dr. Ajai Kr Dixit, Senior Technical Officer and Mr. Malay Ghar, Chief Technical Officer, Department of Microbiology.
The event was followed by distribution of prizes to the winners of the rangoli competition. More 80 alumni attended Foundation Day’s scientific session in the morning on hand hygiene and the cultural program in the evening. A vote of thanks was given by Dr. Chinmoy Sahu.
the Department of Neurology, SGPGI organized the 3rd Parkinson's Disease Awareness Programme on 27th April.
The day started with the Awareness Walk at 6:00 in the morning and was flagged off by the Hon' able Director, SGPGIMS, Lucknow, Prof. R.K. Dhiman. It was attended by the faculty members of the Department of Neurology, Dr. Vimal Paliwal, Dr. Ruchika Tandon and Dr. Vinita Mani, residents, dieticians, physiotherapists, staff members and faculty members from various departments of SGPGI under the leadership of Prof. Sanjeev Jha, HOD, Neurology.
In the afternoon, the Awareness programme was inaugurated by the Director, SGPGI, Prof. R. K. Dhiman. He congratulated the Department of Neurology and emphasized the need for having more such programmes especially for the rural areas. He stressed on the need for differentiating Parkinson's Disease from other disorders, which may present like Parkinson's Disease for instance patients of liver diseases. Prof V. N. Mishra, HOD, Neurology, IMS, BHU, who was the Guest of Honour deliberated on how Dopamine was discovered to be a cause of PD, how newer therapies are coming up and also stressed on meditation.
Prof. Sanjeev Jha, HOD, Neurology, motivated the patients and urged them to be physically active and stress free, inspite of all odds.
Dr. Vimal Paliwal, Medical Superintendent, SGPGIMS explained that slowness, tremors and rigidity were the common symptoms of PD. Dr Ruchika Tandon, Associate Professor, Neurology, explained the history, symptoms of the disease and explained that the patients of Parkinson's Disease may opt for Deep Brain Stimulation surgery if they experience symptoms like uncontrolled movements following medicines and unpredictable medicine results. The patients who underwent DBS at SGPGIMS are doing very well and they also spoke on the occasion. Dr Pawan Kumar Verma, department of Neurosurgery, explained that the technique for DBS was very accurate and effective. The Vinita Mani proposed the vote of thanks.
Awareness programme was also attended by Dr. Dinkar Kulshreshtha, Neurologist, RMLIMS, Lucknow, who described the medicines for PD, Dr Shweta Pandey, Neurologist, KGMU, Lucknow, who talked on caregiver support, Dr Zafar Neyaz, Radiologist, SGPGIMS, Dr Siddharth Rai from the Department of PMR, Dietician Dr Shilpi Tripathi, Physiotherapist Mr Rajendra Kumar and Mr Ritesh Singh, Music Therapist, also explained their respective roles in the patient management.
The institute celebrated 75th Republic Day with full fervor and zeal on 26th January 2024. Director, Prof R K Dhiman hoisted the flag traditionally and administered the oath to all the members present there to remain steadfast in enhancing and nurturing fraternity that ensures the unity and integrity of the nation.
Addressing the faculty members and staff, he presented an account of the achievements of the last one year. He applauded the efforts of the department of Nephrology for starting Interventional Nephrology in EMRTC.
He updated about the Advanced Diabetic Centre, a dedicated center to offer treatment facilities for every ailment related to diabetes under one roof.He informed that creation of Departments of Head and Neck Surgery and Infectious Disease is also in process and the process of recruiting faculty members is underway to make these departments functional.
A large number of people participated in this program. On this occasion, 38 members of the institute family were honored for their excellent work performance.
