ultrasound, the department has conducted 4 to migrants and poor during lockdown. Other
national level workshops to train rheumatologists. members of the department contributed by
providing financial support for this endeavor.

Vision for next 5 years: The department has
plans to do the following: National reference
laboratory for Autoantibodies; create a Centre of
Excellence on rheumatic diseases (coordinated
patient care with rehabilitation, physiotherapy and
joint replacement as well as basic science research);
Increase training seats for DM.
The Department of Critical Care Medicine
runs its 30-bed critical care unit, to its maximum
capacity. It is equipped with and ready to start High
Frequency Oscillatory Ventilation (HFOV) for
patients with severe Acute Respiratory Distress
Syndrome. The DM and PDCC course are running
for over a decade now. The department has
increased their DM seats in Critical Care Medicine
seats from 02 to 05 (each year) from this year.
Recently, Prof. Afzal Azim was given an additional
responsibility of Executive Registrar of the
Institute, which he discharging in a commendable
manner.

State of art Clinical immunology Lab COVID related highlights: The department
faculty has been involved in COVID care from the
very inception of COVID. The faculty has managed
the clinical care and running of ICU/HDU.All the
residents, ICU trained nurses and staff have done
duties in the RCH ICUs during this period.
Currently the department is gearing up for the

3 phase, and is planning the Pediatric ICU (PICU)
for pediatric patients.

COVID related highlights: Department faculty
is actively involved in research related to COVID-19
including a DST funded collaborative project with
department of Endocrinology. Several articles have
been published specific to COVID-19 related issues
like health care, telemedicine, impact on patients
etc. The department has been involved in Preparing for the third wave
teleconsultation since the very beginning of the

pandemic. The residents and faculty have Vision for the next 5 years: Prepare for the 3
