Owing to the nations commitment to bring primary health services within the reach of all individuals, there is a great demand for the Professional Nursing manpower in India. With this view in mind, The College of Nursing at SGPGI Lucknow, an autonomous State University established by the SGPGIMS Act 1983, was established on 14th January 2008.
College of Nursing is the first government institute in Lucknow and one of few such institutions set up in Uttar Pradesh offering graduate degree courses in Nursing. The College of Nursing is affiliated to autonomous state university SGPGIMS, Lucknow by SGPGIMS act 1983. The College offers a 4 year B.Sc. degree course in Nursing. Admission to this course are made through an All India Entrance Test. The program is based on sound educational principles which make provision for continued development of the student as an individual, a citizen and a professional nurse. The College aims at providing desirable behavioural changes in the students which are brought about by meaningful experiences within a climate of mutual respect and understanding.

  • Aims:
    The aim of the undergraduate nursing program is to:
  • Prepare graduates to assume responsibilities as professional, competent nurses and midwives in providing Promotive, Preventive, Curative, and Rehabilitative services.
  • Prepare nurses who can make independent decisions in nursing situations, protect the rights of and facilitate individuals and groups in pursuit of health, function in the hospital, community nursing services, and conduct research studies in the areas of nursing practice. They are also expected to assume the role of teacher, supervisor, and manager in a clinical/public health setting.

  • Objectives: On completion of B.Sc. Nursing degree programme the graduates will be able to:

    Apply knowledge from physical, biological and behavioral sciences, medicine, including alternative systems and nursing in providing nursing care to individuals, families and communities. Demonstrate critical thinking skill in making decisions in all situations in order to provide quality care. Provide Promotive, Preventive and restorative health services in line with the national health policies and programs. Practice within the framework of code of ethics and professional conduct and acceptable standards of practice within the legal boundaries. Communicate effectively with individuals and groups and members of the health team in order to promote effective interpersonal relationships and teamwork. Demonstrate leadership and managerial skills in clinical/community health settings. Conduct need based research studies in various settings and utilize the research findings to improve the quality of care.
