DHR-ICMR Workshop on Neonatal Nutrition: Bench to Bedside The department organised a two-day national workshop on Neonatal Nutrition in collaboration with DHR-ICMR on 15th and 16th April 2023. Faculty members delivered lectures and hands-on sessions on topics including recent advances in neonatal nutrition and growth assessment, drawing participants from across the region.
Neonatal Nursing Workshop A dedicated Neonatal Nursing Workshop was conducted on 14th May 2023, aimed at strengthening the skills and knowledge of nursing staff in evidence-based neonatal care practices.
CME on Neonatal Point of Care Echocardiography The department hosted a landmark full-day CME on Neonatal Point of Care Echocardiography on 30th July 2023, featuring Prof. Pradeep Suryawanshi as the chief resource person. The programme covered echocardiography fundamentals, haemodynamics of PDA, PPHN, and sepsis, along with dedicated hands-on training stations.
Neo-FLIP Teaching Classrooms — A New Academic Initiative The department pioneered the Neo-FLIP (Flipped Learning and Interactive Pedagogy) model for academic residents enrolled in PDCC and DM Neonatology programmes. Case-based assignments are delivered and assessed digitally through Google Classroom, marking a significant step towards innovative postgraduate medical education.
Awards & Recognition Dr. Gaurav Gautam received the First Prize in Poster Presentation at KMC-CON 2023. Dr. Sushil Kumar was awarded Third Prize in the Prof. Meharban Singh Best Research Paper Award at IAP Neocon 2023.

First NNF Point of Care Echo & Ultrasound Workshop The department organised the First National Neonatology Forum (NNF) Point of Care Echo and Ultrasound Workshop on 27th–28th April 2024 at SGPGIMS, Lucknow — a significant milestone in advancing neonatal ultrasound training in the region.
Foundation Day & Nurse Day Celebration The department's Foundation Day was celebrated alongside Nurse Day on 12th May 2024, featuring a dedicated Symposium on Neonatal Pulmonary Hypertension, bringing together faculty and trainees for an enriching academic event.
NNF SHINE Postgraduate Workshop The National Neonatology Forum Short Course for Postgraduates in Neonatology (NNF SHINE) was hosted at SGPGIMS on 14th July 2024, providing structured academic training to postgraduate students in neonatology from across the region.
National Newborn Week 2024 The department observed National Newborn Week from 15th to 20th November 2024, with a series of awareness and academic activities aimed at promoting newborn health and highlighting the department's achievements and services.
Introduction of Inhaled Nitric Oxide (iNO) Therapy In a landmark development, the department introduced inhaled nitric oxide (iNO) therapy for neonates with severe hypoxemic respiratory failure — becoming the first institutional NICU in Uttar Pradesh to implement this advanced life-saving intervention.
Awards & Recognition Dr. Sushil Kumar received the Best Research Paper Award in the Clinical Vignette Category (Assistant Professor) at the SGPGIMS Research Day Celebration 2024. Dr. Preeti Singh Solanki won the First Prize in the Prof. R.S. Dayal Award Paper for Neonatology at UP Pedicon 2024.
Launch of Incubator India Podcast The first three episodes of the prestigious Incubator India Podcast — a platform dedicated to neonatal education and awareness — were released in August 2024, with the department's faculty as key contributors and hosts.

IAP NEOCON 2025 — Hosted in Lucknow The department took centre stage at the national level by co-organising IAP NEOCON 2025 in Lucknow in August 2025. The conference featured an Advanced Critical Care Workshop, panel discussions on neonatal blood transfusion controversies, and a broad range of academic sessions attended by neonatologists from across the country.
Breastfeeding Week Celebration The department observed Breastfeeding Week from 1st to 8th August 2025 with dedicated awareness activities promoting the importance of breastfeeding and optimal infant nutrition for families and healthcare workers.
Foundation Day & National Newborn Week 2025 The department celebrated its Foundation Day alongside National Newborn Week from 15th to 20th November 2025, marking its growth and reaffirming its commitment to neonatal health. A Cyclo-Walkathon and Public Awareness Programme was organised on 16th November 2025 to engage the wider community on newborn health, breastfeeding, and essential newborn care.
Advanced Critical Care Monitoring Workshop — IAP NEOCON 2025 A specialised workshop on Advanced Critical Care Monitoring in the NICU was conducted on 22nd August 2025 as part of IAP NEOCON, focusing on contemporary monitoring strategies for critically ill neonates.
NNF SONIC Training Programme The department served as a host centre for multiple hands-on training sessions under the NNF SONIC (Sonography for Optimizing Neonatal Intensive Care) programme throughout 2025, held in April, May, September, and November.
International Recognition — Travel Grant at Indiana University, USA Dr. Kirti M. Naranje, Professor and Head, was awarded a competitive travel grant to present the department's original research — "Wrist vs Ear Pulse Oximetry for Neonates During Resuscitation: A Randomised Controlled Trial" — at the Emerging Neonatal Resuscitation Science Research Colloquium, Indiana University School of Medicine, Indianapolis, USA, in September 2025.
Awards & Recognition Dr. Akanksha Verma received the Best Research Paper Award (Clinical Vignette Category, Associate Professor) at SGPGIMS Research Day 2025. Dr. R.K. Shwetabh received the Best Research Paper Award in the Student Category at the same event. Dr. Arohi Gupta was honoured with the Prof. Armida Fernandez Best Poster Award at IAP NEOCON 2025, the Best Original Research Award at SGPGIMS Research Day 2025, and the Runner-up Award at UP NEOCON 2025. Nursing Officers Shikha and Sunil won the Divisional Round of the NNF Nursing Quiz at KGMU, Lucknow.
DM Neonatology Seats Expanded Following approval by the National Medical Commission (NMC), the department's DM Neonatology programme seats have been increased from 2 to 4 per year starting from the next academic session — further strengthening advanced neonatal training capacity in the state.
