Dr. Shoo Lee Dr. Shoo Lee, Pediatrician-in-Chief at Sinai Health and Director of the Maternal-Infant Care Research Centre at Mount Sinai Hospital, Toronto, Canada, visited the department in May 2018. A leading figure in perinatal research and quality improvement, Dr. Lee's engagement with the department fostered meaningful dialogue on evidence-based neonatal care and research methodology, inspiring academic and clinical excellence among the team.
Dr. Rajeev Bahl Dr. Rajeev Bahl, Coordinator of the Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health Research and Development team at the World Health Organization (WHO), Geneva, visited the department in January 2019. His visit brought a global public health perspective to neonatal care, with discussions centred on newborn survival strategies, WHO guidelines, and the relevance of large-scale research to improving outcomes in low- and middle-income settings like India.
Dr. Sanjay Patole Professor Sanjay Patole is a full-time clinical academic neonatologist in the 100-bed tertiary neonatal intensive care unit at KEM Hospital for Women, and a Clinical Professor at the University of Western Australia. Prof Patole is a Co-investigator of the NHMRC Centre of Research Excellence for preterm infants, devoted towards translational research, and teaching research methodology and evidence-based practice of medicine. Prof Patole holds the Fellowship of the Australian Institute of Management (FAIM) and the Center for Evidence Based Management (CEBM), Netherlands, an independent non-profit member organization founded by an international group of management scholars and practitioners to promote evidence-based decision- making and practices in the field of management and leadership. He teaches clinical leadership and management to advanced trainees at KEM Hospital.
Kiran More Dr. Kiran More, MD, FRACP, AFRACMA, visited the Department of Neonatology in December 2019, at which time he was serving as Consultant in the Division of Neonatology at Sidra Medicine, Doha, Qatar. An Australian Board-Certified Neonatologist with over two decades of experience spanning India, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the Middle East, and beyond, Dr. More brings a truly global perspective to neonatal care. He has held distinguished positions including Head of Department at BJ Wadia Hospital, Mumbai; Consultant Neonatologist and Director of Newborn Transport at Christchurch Women's Hospital, New Zealand; and Attending Physician at Sidra Medicine, Qatar, where he led the establishment of a Cardiac NICU and served as Assistant Professor at Weill Cornell University. He is currently Head of Department of Neonatology at MRR Children's Hospital, Thane, Maharashtra — a state-of-the-art, paperless NICU facility built in collaboration with SickKids, Canada. With over 45 international publications and expertise in neonatal haemodynamics and targeted neonatal echocardiography, his visit provided the department with rich insights into advanced cardiac neonatal care and international clinical practice.
Dr. Pradeep Suryawanshi, Professor and Head of the Department of Neonatology at BVU Medical College and Sahyadri Hospital, Pune, visited the department in July 2023. A distinguished national expert in neonatology with specialised expertise in neonatal point-of-care echocardiography, his visit was marked by an intensive full-day CME titled"Neonatal Point of Care Echocardiography" held on 30th July 2023. The programme covered a comprehensive range of topics including echocardiography knobology and image optimisation, basic ECHO views, and the haemodynamics and management of Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA), Persistent Pulmonary Hypertension of the Newborn (PPHN), and neonatal sepsis. The CME also featured dedicated hands-on training stations where participants received direct practical exposure to echocardiographic techniques under expert supervision. The visit was a landmark academic event for the department, significantly enhancing the team's skills in functional neonatal echocardiography and reinforcing the department's commitment to advanced, evidence-based neonatal care.
Prof. (Surg R Adm) Girish GuptaThe department was honoured to welcome back Prof. (Surg R Adm) Girish Gupta, DCH, DNB (Pediatrics), DM (Neonatology), in February 2026 — a visit that held special significance as he is a former Head of Department of Neonatology at SGPGIMS, Lucknow, and the visionary behind establishing the DM Neonatology programme here, making this institution the first in Uttar Pradesh to offer super-specialty training in neonatal medicine. He currently serves as Professor Emeritus and Senior Consultant in Neonatology, and Director of Academics, Training, Research, Innovation and Collaboration at Graphic Era Institute of Medical Sciences (GEIMS), Dehradun. His two-day visit on 12th and 13th February 2026 was marked by a formal welcome and felicitation, an engaging guest lecture, and comprehensive clinical bedside rounds across both the Inborn and Outborn NICUs. Trainees benefited from direct mentorship through a Case Grand Round rehearsal session, guided by the very faculty member who laid the academic foundations of this department. The visit concluded with a warm Alumni Meet and Dinner, further strengthening the bonds between the department and its wider academic community.
