The Department of Neonatology is dedicated to providing compassionate, humanized, and state-of-the-art care to newborns - babies less than 28 days of age - who present a unique and complex spectrum of medical conditions. Even seemingly minor problems in a newborn can require specialized knowledge, advanced technology, and highly skilled expertise. With this understanding at its core, the department was established with a commitment to delivering comprehensive neonatal care to the region, with the optimal use of resources and the latest evidence-based approaches.
The department operates one of the most advanced Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs) in Uttar Pradesh, comprising separate inborn and outborn units, a neonatal ward, and robust outpatient and high-risk follow-up services. Advanced respiratory support - including non-invasive ventilation, high-frequency ventilation, and
inhaled nitric oxide (iNO) therapy- is available, with the department being among the first institutional units in Uttar Pradesh to introduce iNO for severe hypoxemic respiratory failure. The NICU is also among the first in the state to offer amplitude-integrated EEG (aEEG) and therapeutic hypothermia for neonates with hypoxic-ischaemic encephalopathy (HIE).
