now). Even I, who he often called as an external “expert”for multiple committee meetings, was awestruck by what he had achieved. We

were both young and idealistic in those days, and shared a common philosophy and vision for critical care. I was genuinely happy to
see his vision come to fruition, and was privileged to watch him at work. His homework was meticulous, drafting immaculate and his
skills at working with administration, engineering, vendors, government, etc brilliant. It is more than fair to say that while I was often an
external expert for various programs of the Department of CCM at SGPGI, I was in more ways the student and Dr Baronia the expert.

When the Medical Council of India set up a panel to recommend recognition of CCM as a specialty, Dr. Baronia was an automatic
choice. The work of the committee, consisting of Dr. Baronia, GC Khilnani, and myself resulted in the recognition of CCM as an
independent specialty, and the introduction of DM (CCM) in various medical colleges across India.

Dr. Baronia’s contribution to the eld of CCM in SGPGI and India is immense, and cannot be forgotten. The foundation laid by him is a
launching pad for the Department of CCM in SGPGI to reachgreater heights. I wish the Department of CCM all the very best for the
future.

And I wish Dr. Baronia all the very best for the future in his new role. I am sure we will all miss him as the HOD of CCM at SGPGI, but I
look forward to meeting him at Pithoragarh as a base for the many beautiful treks in the region!
