MD (Anesthesia) DARCS (London) MNAMS,FICA
Former HOD
Department of Anesthesiology, SGPGIMS
I am extremely happy to learn that my favourite faculty member Dr. Arvind Baronia is joining as the director of the medical institute at
Pithoragarh.
When I joined as HOD Anesthesiology and Critical Care department at SGPGI, I was shocked to know that due to some strange
concept of the planners the department had been started as a service department and all the faculty members had been made to join
at junior level of lecturers. No one was involved in any kind of teaching, research or any academic activity. Dr. Baronia was the only
person who was very keen to attend a conference and present his work. I still remember how I spent time with him sorting out his slides
as he was preparing his lecture. Thus, he was the rst person from the department to present his work at a conference at Bangalore. I
even remember the topic “reex sympathetic dystrophy” !! After that there was no looking back.
Dr. Baronia is a keen academician and a very well known personality and has now presented his research work at many international
and national conferences
Dr. Baronia has been an exceptional worker, meticulous in all his dealings and gets involved actively. He is dependable and sincere.
For every conference that I organised he did all the running around. He has been instrumental in organising and streamlining the
procurement of drugs, consumables and their proper distribution at SGPGI. I understand that his distribution system was found to be
so good that it has been adopted at AIIMS too.
Dr. Baronia received his training in critical care at Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast, and after I left he took over the charge of the new
Intensive Care Unit which has now grown to be a very well known place for critically ill patients. Also, his unit is running regular courses
