Dr. Mohan Gurjar
Additional Professor,
Department of Critical Care Medicine
SGPGIMS, Lucknow

In the lap of Himalaya!! Baronia Sirs’ decision to move to Pithoragarh as Principal of Medical College didn’t surprise us, as he always
achieves what he wants….. Truly great people attracted by great creature of God (Himalaya). He led and lived by examples, by having
clarity in his thought and action in the travel path of professional and personal life.
During my fteen years of association, I am fortunate that I got not only wisdom of advices at multiple times but also closely seen
various beautiful qualities including but not limited to, freedom of expression and to allow work of choice, doing himself hard work
with sincerity and honesty without fear of obstacles.

Some of the landmark contribution during his three decade service at SGPGIMS are unmatchable like creation of rst standalone
Department of Critical Care Medicine in the country in public sector, then to get recognition of Critical Care Medicine subject as super-
specialty by Medical Council of India (now, National Medical Commission), establishing Hospital Revolving Fund (HRF) and
Kamdhenu Ati Nirdhan Chikitsa Sahayata Society. Administrators and colleagues at the institute acknowledge the caliber of his work
of style and letter drafting. His engineering acumen helped a lot to build a world class ICU facility, which is appreciated by various
national and international faculties.
His critical comments during morning academic rounds cum classes are still remembered by our alumni as a life-time teaching pearls.
At bed-side, he didn’t hesitate to do any aspects of patient care, which inspires and teaches a lot to both residents as well as nursing

staff. He has very unique quality as a intensivist, to give importance of detailed medical history, critical appraisal of pathophysiological
behavior, individualized applied pharmacology, nutritional aspects, mobilization, documentation, communication with all stake
holders (including patient, relatives, doctors, nurse) while managing critically ill patients.
At SGPGI, we consider him as a ‘Man of All Seasons’ who leads from the front and never says hands up!!
