Thalassemia hypertransfusion therapy: We have the largest thalassemia centre providing diagnosis [including molecular diagnosis and prenatal diagnosis] in Uttar Pradesh. More than 100 new patients are seen per year and more than 600 patients are under regular follow-up. UP government has been providing funds for the free treatment of patients for last 5 years. Population based screening of all pregnant women and / or couples of child bearing age is advocated and popularized by medical genetics department over last 3 decades. Eligible couples from all over Uttar Pradesh are referred to the department for prenatal diagnosis

Hemophilia comprehensive management centre:  For the last 3 decades haemophilia patients are being treated for acute and chronic bleeding complications on outdoor and indoor facilities. Approximately 800 hemophilics are currently registered under the department. The department has comprehensive haemophilia care facilities including molecular diagnosis, genetic counseling, prenatal diagnosis, physiotherapy, on demand therapy, short term prophylaxis for management of target joints and chronic arthropathy. Large number of patients with life-threatening bleeding complications like intracranial bleeds, post traumatic bleeds, intra abdominal bleeds, etc. are treated and this includes emergency and planned surgeries. UP government has been providing coagulant factors for free treatment for the last 10 years.
