About Department

The foundation stone of the Department of Radiotherapy was laid on 17th August, 1987. The department started its MD course curriculum in 1991. During the initial years, it was led under the visionaries such as Prof. Ayyagari, Dr. S Hukku and Prof. NR Datta along with the Physics leadership from Prof. KJ Maria Das. They steered the team in such fashion that within a decade the department scaled heights and was regarded as one of the best department in the country, both in terms of patient care and training of manpower. Since the beginning, the focus has been to deliver quality assured Radiotherapy, adopt cost effectiveness, evidence-based means of treating cancer patients, and ask relevant contemporary questions in research i.e., find local solutions to local problems.

Mission

The department of Radiotherapy from the very beginning has strived to deliver high quality, precision radiotherapy along with chemotherapy and palliative cancer care services to the cancer patients belonging to the state of Uttar Pradesh and adjoining regions.

Since the beginning, the department has been running a robust academic MD program for the postgraduate students to generate high quality manpower. Similarly, the department believes in conducting relevant research looking into local problems and trying to find local cost effective and doable solutions.

Vision

In the coming 5 years the department of Radiotherapy as has been the practice since its inceptions wishes to work in the following directions:

1. Provide quality assured, precision radiotherapy to maximum possible cancer patients within the state of Uttar Pradesh and adjoining regions.

2. To generate robust and safe manpower

3. To carry our relevant, cost effective and doable research in common cancers looking into their therapeutic aspects.

4. To augment the state of the art infrastructure/ equipments for being able to practice and teach postgraduate students the advanced and contemporary radiotherapy techniques.

5. To augment palliative care services within the state of Uttar Pradesh.

6. To initiate home visit programs for advanced and terminally ill cancer patients.

7. To initiate Hospice programs within the state

8. To expand the Hospital Based Cancer Registry (HBCR) program within the Institute so as to capture the entire cancer foot fall and study the patterns of care in these patients.

9. To initiate the Population Based Cancer registry (PBCR) program within the city of Lucknow

10. To start the DM Clinical Oncology program
