Prashant Agarwal is a Professor in the Department of Transfusion Medicine at the Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute, Lucknow, India. He completed his undergraduate degree (M.B.B.S) from King George Medical College and his post-graduation, M.D. in Transfusion Medicine from Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute, Lucknow, India. He also trained in Apheresis Technology & Blood Component Therapy and acquired a Post-Doctoral Certificate (PDCC) in this field, hence becoming the first Transfusion Medicine Specialist in the country to have both MD in Transfusion Medicine and a PDCC in the same field. His major interest is in Immunohaematology, Fetal Transfusion, Patient Blood Management and Blood Irradiation. He has taught several students in this field. He is also a Principal Assessor of National Board of Hospitals and the founder member of Indian Society of Transfusion Medicine. In recognition of his work, he was conferred the J.G.Jolly award for for contributing in information ideas/ research in the field of transfusion medicine.
