Prof Ankur Bhatnagar completed his undergraduate medical training at King George’s Medical College (KGMC) Lucknow where he was the recipient of certificate of merit in 3 subjects and secured distinction (> 75% marks) in 2 subjects. Subsequently, after completing postgraduate training in General Surgery at Post Graduate Dep’t of Surgery King George’s Medical College he joined senior residency in KGMC Lucknow. He completed his M.Ch in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery from SMS Medical College Jaipur.
After a year of working as Registrar at Dep’t of Plastic Surgery Ganga Hospital Coimbatore and Assistant Professor Era’s Lucknow Medical College , he joined SGPGIMS as an Assistant Professor in 2009. Dr Ankur Bhatnagar was the founder consultant to join the new department and initiated Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery services at SGPGIMS. Dr Ankur’s areas of research interest include Peripheral Nerve & Brachial Plexus Surgery, Reconstructive Microsurgery Management of Peripheral Vascular Malformations & Aesthetic & Reconstructive Breast Surgery , as well as scientific writing and editing. He has received intramural & Extramural research support from SGPGI and Other Funding agencies .
Prof Ankur Bhatnagar has keen interest in Brachial plexus Surgery and has operated on more than 200 patients in the last six years. He has published more than 50 papers and Book chapters in peer reviewed journals and textbooks . He serves as Secretary of Breast Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery Association (BRASA) and has been an executive member of Association of Plastic Surgeons of India (APSI), Indian Society of Peripheral Nerve Surgery(ISPNS) and National Academy of Burns of India(NABI). He is the Course Director for APSI Post Graduate Medical Program (APSI-PGME) and member of various committes in the Association of Plastic Surgeons of India . He is the recipient of numerous awards & traveling fellowships and acts as reviewer of various journals and has been awarded the Fellowship of American College of Surgeons(FACS) .He has completed professional courses such as ATLS , Fundamental Disaster Management and Basic Course in Bio-Medical Research.
He has been a regular organizer of various academic activities in the Department and in the Institute like APSICON , BRASCON, NERVCON .
Prof Bhatnagar has been involved in the administrative affairs of SGPGIMS and has been the Sub Dean (Student Affairs and Training ) & Nodal Officer NMC Cell at SGPGIMS from 2018-2022 . He presently serves as the Chief Librarian of SGPGIMS, Founder Secretary SGPGIMS Alumni Association and Treasurer SGPGIMS Education Foundation.
Prof Bhatnagar has keen interest in sports especially cricket and is a member of SGPGIMS cricket team.
