Dr Anshu Srivastava is working as Professor and Head of the Department in the Department of Pediatric Gastroenterology at Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow, India. She completed her basic medical training and MD in Pediatrics from King George's Medical College, Lucknow and then got trained at SGPGIMS in Gastroenterology with DM degree.
Following this she further trained in Pediatric Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Royal Children's Hospital, Melbourne (Australia), Royal Free Hospital, London (UK) and Alberta Children's Hospital, Calgary (Canada).
She first worked as Assistant Professor in Pediatrics at AIIMS, New Delhi and then in KGMU, Lucknow before joining the department of Pediatric Gastroenterology at SGPGIMS in 2007. After availing the ICMR international fellowship for Young Biomedical Scientist in 2010, she got trained in functional GI and motility disorders at Children's Hospital Milwaukee, USA and established the first unit to start motility tests like high resolution esophageal manometry, high resolution anorectal manometry and 24hours pH in children at SGPGI Lucknow.
She is the recipient of many awards and distinctions including Masters of Indian society for Gastroenterology (ISG), Fellow of Indian association of study of liver (INASL), Dr J R Srivastava oration- awarded by Kanpur Branch of Indian Association of Pediatrics, SGPGIMS First Research Day award for best paper (Professor, Medical) for the year 2020, the Prof SR Naik award for Outstanding Research Investigator for the year 2014, the Dr Alex Mowat award for best hepatology paper in ESPGHAN 2009, the Dr PN Berry fellowship etc. Apart from these, she was awarded the Hewett Medal for the best student during her final year MBBS. She also figured in top 2% scientists in the Stanford list of scientists of the world twice in last 3 years.
She is the section editor of Pediatric Gastroenterology for the Indian Journal of Pediatrics, and Member editorial board of the Journal of Clinical and Experimental Hepatology. She contributes regularly to research as reviewer for many national and international journals of repute and research projects for Indian Council for Medical Research. In addition, she has worked as the Secretary of Indian Society of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (ISPGHAN) from 2017-19.
Her research interests include autoimmune liver disease, liver failure (both acute and chronic with its complications- hepatic encephalopathy, portal hypertension), inflammatory bowel disease, and DGBI.
Dr Anshu has actively contributed to research and has published 25 book chapters and over 230 research papers in peer reviewed international and national journals of repute. She contributed to many National and International guidelines, e.g. Primary prophylaxis of variceal bleeding in children and the role of MesoRex Bypass: Summary of the Baveno VI Pediatric Satellite Symposium, ISPGHAN guidelines on acute liver failure, Autoimmune hepatitis, Wilsons disease, MASLD, Constipationetc. She was the lead person in first prospective multicentric research project on IBD in children in India.
