Dr. Jalaj Gupta
Associate Professor, Stem Cell Research Centre (SCRC), SGPGIMS, Lucknow
Dr. Jalaj Gupta is working as Assistant Professor at Stem Cell Research Centre (SCRC), Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS), Lucknow. Dr. Gupta studied Biotechnology at Bundelkhand University, Jhansi. In year 2005, he moved to Catalan Institute of Oncology, Badalona. Barcelona, Spain where he studied 14-3-3s methylation on the serum DNA of advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients. In 2007, Dr. Gupta moved to Spanish National Cancer Research Center (CNIO), Spain where he started working as PhD. During his PhD, he focused on role of p38a MAPK in inflammation associated colon cancer using mouse models. After obtaining his PhD he continued working as a post-doctoral scientist at Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB, Barcelona). In year 2014, he moved to Institute for Tumor Biology and Experimental Therapy, Georg-Speyer-Haus, Frankfurt, Germany where he studied Cancer Stem Cell plasticity in colorectal cancer. In April, 2019 Dr Gupta came back to India and joined SCRC, SGPGIMS as Assistant Professor.
His current research focuses on the role of intestinal stem cells in intestinal diseases such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), intestinal infections and colorectal cancer and to study pathways/mechanism responsible for such pathologies. To dissect mechanism involved in these pathologies, his laboratory uses cell culture models (2D cell culture and 3D organoid culture) as well as mouse models. In addition, his lab is also interested to understand effects of conventional therapies (chemotherapy and radiotherapy) on tumor microenvironment during tumor progression.
