Department of Surgical Gastroenterology

Foundation Day: December 20, 1988 The Department came into existence with the joining of Dr. Rajan Saxena as Assistant Professor. The Department started OPD Services from December 22, 1988, and undertook the first major GI Surgery on the 5th January 1989 – starting off with a gangrenous small bowel resection at midnight in the General Hospital of the Institute, and never looked back from that day onwards.
