About Department

Emergency Medicine (EM) is a medical specialty dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of unforeseen illness or injury. Initial evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and disposition of any patient requiring expeditious medical, surgical, or psychiatric care are all part of EM (American College of Emergency Physician, USA).

Vision

EM is a very dynamic clinical work area with an ever increasing annual footfall of patients needing timely life supportive diagnostic and therapeutic interventions.

Our department will soon be the largest Emergency Medicine Department in India with a total capacity of 210 beds.

With the start of MD in Emergency Medicine and other courses like PDCC & PDF in various sub-divisions of Emergency Medicine, it will soon be a source of much needed well-trained manpower for the institute and other medical colleges of the state of UP and country at large.

The ED will act as the focal point for the Golden Hour Project, ensuring quality care in the Golden Hour of critical events like AMI, Brain Stroke, Trauma and other illnesses requiring immediate therapeutic interventions.

The ED is keen to utilize the full potential of Tele-Health in times to come to augment the quality of Emergency Services in the state. Using the HUB & SPOKE model, the EM in SGPGI will act as the HUB for Tele-ED & Tele-ICU & services for the state.

The ED envisions itself as the focal point of pre-hospital Emergency Medical Services (EMS) dealing with transport of Emergency patients including Air Ambulance Service to and from ED of SGPGI. The ED will provide much needed training to the paramedics in this specialized field of EMS. It will also play a leading role in training of traffic police and other police personal in the art and science of First Responder to Trauma victims for timely and safe transfer to ED.

The ED also envisions itself both as a facilitator and an active partner in cadaveric organ donation in SGPGI. The ED plans to take a lead role in CODE Teams for SGPGI, catering to emergency and cardio-pulmonary resuscitations.

Since ED is a hub of Acute Care Medicine dealing with pediatric/adult/geriatric medical and surgical specialties, training of HCWs is of paramount importance. EMD envisions itself as a Simulation Based Training Center for the HCWs of the state and country. Becoming a Center of Excellence in Emergency Medicine is not too far away if we can ensure all the above to the best of our abilities.

Mission

Implementation of Protocol Driven, Time Sensitive, and Evidence Based Emergency Care through excellence in clinical care, education, research, administrative stewardship, and strategic initiatives is the mission of our ED.

We educate, mentor, and develop future leaders in Emergency Medicine, who will devote their efforts to advancing emergency care, pre-hospital care, research and public health.
