Professor Vikas Agarwal graduated from King George's Medical College and did MD (Internal Medicine) from the same institute in 1996. He worked briefly as senior resident at KGMC and joined this department in January 1997. After one year as senior resident he registered for the DM program which he successfully completed in December 2000. Following a brief stint as at department of Rheumatology at Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences, Hyderabad he worked for three years as Senior Lecturer in internal medicine at Govt Medical College & Hospital, Chandigarh. From 2004, he has been working as a faculty at the Department of Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology, SGPGIMS, Lucknow (from July 2015 as a full Professor). He delivered the Zydus Oration of the Indian Association of Rheumatology in 2007 and the prestigious IRA Oration in 2019. He has successfully guided 6 PhD candidates to completion, a further three are under training. He has more than 250 publications in National and International journals (including in Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases, Lancet Respiratory Medicine &Scientific Reports) as well as numerous book chapters to his credit. His areas of interest include scleroderma, spondyloarthritis, vasculitis, mechanisms of drug resistance, and fibroblast and endothelial biology. He is currently Editor-in-chief of the Indian Journal Rheumatology for the session 2019-2022.
