Thanks Sir, for all the labour you had put in to make us understand the art and science of
Critical care medicine. You taught us that ‘Patient’ is your God and your foremost
responsibility. I remember this incident very clearly which has left lasting imprint on my
mind.
During my Sr. residency in CCM, there was a CPI(M) ex-leader admitted to the ICU on
ventilator and was due for tracheostomy. Sir, asked me if I wanted to do this tracheostomy
and offered to supervise. I was covering the ward calls for review of cases for advice or
admission to CCM and all patient transports in CCM. It used to be very busy with a 24 hour
on call responsibility. He asked me to call him anytime once I have nished with my on-call
jobs. Anytime meant anytime during the 24hr period. I became free around 2 a.m. from ward
reviews etc. and gave a phone call to Sir. He immediately came from home and supervised
me in my rst tracheostomy @ 3a.m. So to say, Sir was available 24X7 for his patients.
What a great dedication indeed. 3 Cheers…Hip Hip Hurray…..
