Rajdhani CORONA Hospital: A Leading Facility for COVID Care during the Pandemic
As Corona was declared to be a global pandemic by the World Health Organization, The government of Uttar Pradesh entrusted SGPGI with the responsibility of creating the apex level COVID Care facility for the state very quickly, in a new place, for a new disease to meet the urgent demand for a center to manage the most complicated patients with COVID.
Under the able guidance of Maha Mahim Smt Anandiben Patel, and Mananeeya Mukhya Mantri Sri Yogi Adityanath, and with the unhindered support from the entire government machinery, we were able to create a world-class Rajdhani CORONA Hospital (RCH) within a very short span of time, equip it, train our healthcare workers to run it optimally, and put in place the best possible protocols to manage some of most challenging patients with SARS COV-2 viral infection. RCH was first physically inspected by the Honorable CM and Minister of Medical Education along with ACS prior to its commissioning.
Doctors from each specialty, nursing staff, patient helpers, attendants, housekeeping staff, safai karamcharis, security staff and all the civil, electrical air conditioning support teams joined hands to fight this dreaded disease, and have been doing so since March 2020. RCH is a dedicated COVID hospital with a capacity of 318 beds, of which 276 are ICU/HDU beds, and the rest are dedicated to dialysis, private beds or the Triage-3 Emergency beds.
The planning, creation, management and successful running of Rajdhani COVID Hospital (RCH), the Apex Hospital for COVID-Care set up an example for the rest of the state and country. Dr R K Singh is the SGPGI-Nodal Officer-COVID team and DR Alok Nath is Assistant Nodal Officer. The Department has made significant contribution in the planning, initiating, designing, creating and successfully running of the COVID-Unit & RCH at SGPGI as well as the planning and implementation of UP State Response against COVID. Through ECHO (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes) platform we initiated and sustained a bi-weekly interactive COVID teaching & training virtual session of 2-3 hours. We conducted over 75 such sessions and trained nearly 25000 HCWs of the 52 State Medical Colleges. COVID-Virtual-Case-Based, 01 hour discussions are also being done by the Nodal officer and his team. Till date 100 sessions have been conducted and over 5000 participants have benefitted from these interactive COVID case discussions. Daily evening clinical-virtual-rounds of RCH are also being continuously conducted by this core team. The department faculty is actively involved all aspects of COVID care and numerous COVID research projects have been initiated by them.
